The two main activities affected by the weather conditions during handling operations are those for the unloading or embarkation of containers on the aprons and those for disembarking or embarking bulk or dusty goods.

In the first case the processing steps include:
• unloading or embarking of containers on ships using quay cranes, self-propelled cranes, lift trucks, tractors and related container trailers;
• anchorage and un-anchorage of containers on ships;
• handling and placement of containers on the apron of the boarding terminals.

The resulting risks are mainly those deriving from the investment or crushing against or under the weight of the containers due to the oscillation or the fall of the load under the pressure of the wind.

The second case refers to the unloading or embarkation of dusty bulk goods from / to the ships and their handling on the terminal plates. The resulting risks refer both to the dispersion of potentially dangerous dusts and to mechanical accidents deriving from slipping of vehicles and personnel.
